Even in one small wing,
there's a story worth knowing

When people think of Yongin, places like Everland or Hantaek Botanical Garden usually come to mind first. But today I want to head a little further out, toward Baegam-myeon in Cheoin-gu. There's a spot called Yongin Insect Theme Park, tucked along Sambaek-ro 835beon-gil, which opened back in 2012. As the name suggests, it's a space built entirely around insects, and being a bit removed from downtown actually makes it a calmer place to walk through.

A Place That Teaches How People and Insects Can Coexist

The direction of this place is clear. It was built around the idea of people and insects living together, and around reconsidering insects — creatures we usually dismiss as small and unimportant — as valuable biological resources. Bugs you'd normally walk past without a second thought turn out to be essential to holding an ecosystem together, and coming here might shift how you see that, even just a little. For kids, it's a chance to meet insects for real, outside a textbook. For adults, it's a chance to set aside a familiar bias, if only for an afternoon.

Even something that looks small and unimportant turns out, once you really look, to be a precious resource holding up this world — that's something I relearned at this theme park.

An Outing That Sticks With You, Especially with Kids

This is a place that suits family visits particularly well. It's not flashy like a downtown amusement park, but there's nowhere quite like it for walking slowly hand in hand with a kid and talking about insects along the way. That said, I haven't yet been able to confirm details like operating hours or admission fees, so I can't state them here. Local theme parks like this often change how they run things depending on the season, so I'd recommend calling ahead or checking an official channel before you head out. That way, you can visit with confidence instead of making a wasted trip.

YONGI's Tip · Baegam-myeon is a bit removed from central Yongin, so it's best to set your navigation to the exact address, 38 Sambaek-ro 835beon-gil, before heading out. Double-checking operating hours and admission info through an official channel beforehand will make for a much more relaxed visit.

Insects can make some people a little uneasy, but this theme park has a way of easing that feeling. Take a slow walk hand in hand with your kid and talk about these small lives. I'll tell you more once I've been myself.
